 juin 30, 2005 『GENSHIGUMO』- The Atomic Cloud Will play at The National Noh Theatre in Tokyo
"GENSHIGUMO, or The Atomic Cloud, a Prayer for Peace" an original Noh playby UDAKA Michishige, Kongo School Master Actor active primarily in Kyoto and Founder of the International Noh Institute. The unique characteristics that give Noh it's universal appeal create a theatre experience that is both a requiem that gives voice and form to the suffering of those who perished as a result of nuclear bombings, and in extension, the misuse of atomic power, and a prayer for world peace. Noh drama was declared the first representative of a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in May of 2001. The program will include a commentary by Dr. ONO Yoshiro of Okayama University, and a dramatic reading of the Noh text by actress NAKAMURA Yuko. A percentage of the proceeds from the performance will be donated to those in Hiroshima and Nagasaki who still suffer from the effects of the atomic bombings. Copies of a translation of the play, in English, will be available at the door.
